Summer Camp 2010

2010 Camper Information

Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles Summer Camp is a day camp for girls ages 8-17. The mission of Rock Camp is to mentor girls in music and self-expression, while boosting self-esteem and instilling a sense of self-empowerment.

In one week, and with the guidance of female role models, girls form bands, write an original song, and perform live at a music venue in L.A. Workshops include screen-printing, songwriting, self-defense and more. Prior music experience is not required, and instruments will be provided.

CAMPER SELECTION & NOTIFICATION

Any girl between the ages of 8-17 by July 26, 2010 may apply. Campers are selected by a committee seeking to establish a balanced and diverse camp population in relation to instrument, age, previous musical experience, economic status, geography and community.

“EXPRESS YOURSELF” PIECE

In order to get to know campers better, we require that all applicants submit an “Express Yourself” piece in addition to their application. We ask campers to tell us why they want to attend Rock Camp, what music means to them, or anything else they’d like to share with us. Acceptable mediums include: letter, poem, essay, drawing, painting, collage, video, photo essay, or audio recording. Campers are encouraged to be creative and expressive with this. Please make sure the camper’s name is on her piece. You must submit an “Express Yourself” piece in order for your application to be considered complete.

INSTRUMENTS

Campers choose which instrument to learn: guitar, bass guitar, drum kit, keyboard, vocals, or DJ/turntables. Please indicate first, second and third choice of instrument on the application. Due to the need to acquire gear in advance, you cannot change your selection after you send in your application, and you cannot change instruments during camp week. Instruments will be provided at camp. If you have your own guitar or bass, you may bring it. Please note that Rock Camp does not accept liability for personal instruments.

LUNCH

Rock Camp does not provide lunch for campers. Each camper needs to bring lunch and a snack each day. If you are eligible for free lunch at school, and would like free lunch at camp, please check the box on the financial aid application and we will do our best to make arrangements for lunch to be provided.

FINANCIAL AID

Financial aid is no longer available for summer camp 2010.

Limited financial aid is available to families who have a need for assistance due to economic hardship. Applying for financial aid will neither increase nor decrease the camper’s chances of acceptance into Camp. We encourage you to ask for assistance if you need it. You will find information on how to apply for financial aid inside the Camper Application (both online and in the printable versions).

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are no longer available for summer camp 2010.

Two full-tuition scholarship opportunities available to campers: the Feeding the Soul Foundation Scholarship, and the Raining Jane “See Jane Rock” Scholarship.
